What is the worst date you've ever been on?

well, since the guy is the one who usually plans the dates with the ladies in the early stages, I've always planned things that are fun for me! just another aspect of the benefits of being a man. that said, you'll have to ask all the ladies I've gone out on dates with! I'm sure they'll tell you :)
I suppose I could yield to the question, though. well, I don't really need to, I guess...I'd surely be speaking for the girl...and they speak for themselves often enough. heh heh.

by the way, moop, your brother looks just like the dude on Lost.

What are 10 things you've done that other people probably haven't?

this is a fun question that I wouldn't have noticed if it wasn't for flanagan's flair. some of these I hope other folks can have a chance to experience...others I hope not.

1. Drink Jagermeister for the first time from my German prof's bottle at Rosen Montag during Karnival in Köln, Germany.

2. Saw Schidler's List in a huge sold out theater on opening day in Germany while studying Hitler and his regime.

3. I was the oldest member of the New York Stock Exchange's secretary guy for a month. I had long hair and an earring at the time. Needless to say, he did not approve of that, but I did set him back by speaking German which half of their office did business with...

4. I did light shows at CBGB's in New York City

5. Played co-ed naked soccer at my college which made USA Today which eventually ruined the occasion for the future students.

6. ahh yes, spent a night in the Dade County Jail in Miami, Florida...nasty nasty stuff.

7. I chewed through a lamp cord when I was 1yr old...the circuit breaker...ummm...didn't break. my brother had to rip the cord out of the wall. I consequently had 3 surgeries on my mouth. you have to look pretty close to notice.

8. hmm, I drove into a telephone pole in a Chevette going 65 miles/hour.

9. umm, brace yourself...most of you know this one but some don't...I was robbed at knifepoint, tied up, and cut up with that knife (from my own kitchen) with a roommate...the cuts were super, superficial...nothing permanent physically. but, it has taken it's toll psychologically I'm sure. the three guys shared maybe $150 that they stole from my tip jar in my room...we got the main guy...he got 8 years and 8 months. worth it? hmmm.

10. learned how to drive on a frozen lake at age 12.

I feel like we had a question like this last year...I vaguely remember something like it. oh well...I gotta get ready for broomball. sorry for any nightmares. :-O

QotD: My First Friend

Who is the very first friend you ever had? Are you still in touch?

my very first friend was my buddy keith...and we are still the best of buddies to this day. it all started in sunday school at 4 years old. I'm sure there were other kids sooner, but he really is the first buddy I remember. Now, we have both moved into the city but have different things goin' on...we only hang out once every couple weeks even though we live no more than a mile from each other. But, I don't hang out with anyone more than once every couple weeks. funny how that happens with age...

keith is on the right, matt is on the left, and I'm in the middle in both side photos...the middle photo is a shot of keith mid-climb.

the first is the day before our first experience with alpine mountaineering. We went straight up the snowband or couloir heading straight up the mountain just to the left of the summit ...a beautiful climb and a phenomenal view of the mighty san juans from the top. The second photo was shot during the climb. The third was shot from the summit.

This is pretty good...I thought it was totally unbelievable, personally. I was in the airport in Tokyo when I noticed someone who looked oddly familiar. As the line brought us closer together, sure enough, it was Weston Noble, a choir director who I'd had (not consistently since he was the director of the super chorale that I was not willing to commit my life too and probably not trained enough to be apart of) for choir festivals at my college throughout the four years that I was in choir at Luther. This guy is completely amazing. I was honored to even say hello much less sit and talk with him for 1/2 hour while we waited for our next flights. He was heading to Guam to direct a choir there, mentioned in wikipedia (wikipedia is amazing) while I was headed for Shanghai. We exchanged praises of the program at Luther, of course. And, we just talked about how nice it is to be a part of the international community, the weather, what he's up to, what I'm up to...good stuff. way cool to run into him to give him a heartfelt and personal thanks for what he's done and the impact he had on my life. He donates every penny he makes back to the college and strolls around picking up cigarette butts off the ground as he walks...he's the reason why I never throw a cigarette butt on the ground...so cool.

QotD: The Never-Ending Boat Ride

What's the longest boat ride you've ever been on?

I travelled from Venice to Athens using the Eurail ticket so all transportation was prepaid. I was so determined not to pay outside the prepaid ticket and fly from Venice to Athens, for probably not that much $$, that I proceeded to use the following travel plans:

a 12 hour overnight train ride from Venice to Brindisi (Italian port town)

a 19 hour ship ride from Brindisi to Patras (Greek port town)

a 7 hour train ride from Patras to Athens.

38 hours of travel...although technically I used only 1 day of the Eurail pass (I had a 10-day flexipass)...I wouldn't recommend this to anyone which I'm sure you could figure out for yourself.

Oh well...I was 19...

but, I really shouldv'e just stayed on Corfu with the other travellers who told me how much fun it was there. Back then, I didn't necessarily go with the vibe...I was much more determined to follow through with my predetermined agenda...something that needs to be confronted every day. something I confronted again in China. I'm feeling the barriers drop more and more now. It's pretty refreshing.

This time I stomped down the stairs and said, under my breath, every so calculated, "bitch!" I was sure she didn't hear me until I heard her footsteps on the stairs...step, step, creak, big creak...ah, I figured I was totally screwed. She came into my room, sat next to me and asked me, simply, "So...what does that make you?"

You were my inspiration for this post, Joy. I forgot what my first post was so I checked it out. It is also my favorite post. It's timeless. water...some of us have it in abundance...most of us lack a sufficient amount...soon there may be wars over it...water and how it presents itself was a solid foundation for my blog because it is as close to true emotion as I have been able to find amidst these random deep thoughts on the bleerzog. Here I am trying to be so deep and thoughtful, when all I mean to say is that I really like this post. it's another great way to get away from it all for a few minutes...one of my favorite things to do.
