a u.s. consulate in lhasa would be a damn good next step. Also, regain the access to the freedom bridge for the Tibetan people. Just a couple important topics we need to confront with our partners regarding the human rights issue in China.
socialization of risk, the privatization of reward.
I just think that this clip is such a great example of the skills of a couple pros both doing a damn good job of debating.
refreshing to me to think that there is no way in hell I could ever compete at this level without getting my nuts chopped off...unlike the debates we've seen in recent history...as in the last couple of campaigns for presidency.
they are fired up and I think it's great.
it's a little over two minutes in length.
check this clip out for yourself and tell me what you think!
how often do you think it happens that a person remains conservative because of "family tradition" versus someone who remains liberal because of the same?
my theory is that it happens a lot more often that people remain republican because of their parents and folks who are liberal are so whether or not their parents like it.
as you think about your friends and family, let me know what percentage of them have more parental influence on their political tendency, liberal or conservative.
my extended family is majority republican because of their faith...so they say...but their values are more inclined towards the common good...typically, the women are nurses and educators...the men are in business...therefore, the families generally vote republican.
my college friends are all liberal whether their parents are or not of which probably half of their parents are republican
my high school friends are typically liberal if they care, but they typically don't care much about politics. the two who I consider to be republican typically are because they would be whether their parents were or not...I guess, this goes against my theory.
confusing...yes. but, I had a fleeting thought that maybe, in the next generation, as people become more and more independent from their previous generation, their will be more support for the common good...similar to the path that the Europeans have taken.

something I thought of while taking a happy hour break at my favorite local watering hole, where beers and kick ass slices of pizza are $2 each 10pm-1am every day. Gives me a great reason not to cook. I parked myself at the bar to eat and drink and catch up on local news...they always have a daily paper sitting at the bar for the soloists. I read an op ed that explained how it's all Clinton's fault that we're in Iraq and Bush has merely been trying to fix the situation. I can't believe they even published this dumbass's thoughts. But, freedom goes both ways, right? So I wrote down my immediate thoughts...it's a wonder why I haven't heard this from other people more often.
wealth is so often relative - is it your neighbor's wealth you're comparing your own to? Or is it the overall average income you're comparing it to? living standards in the equation...
it's amazing to me who politically supports and fuels the elite...the one's you never actually see - the secret societies of the ultra rich.
not only do the normal every day folks work for the ultra rich at work, they also work for them at home, and most importantly in the polls...
here in the u.s. I blame it on the whole "maybe someday I'll be a millionaire, too!" syndrome. well, the top 2% in this country make >$1million. the next 3% make > $500,000. so that's a total of about 15million out of 300 million who make...well, you get the picture. I could go on and on. what is it...something like the top 1% own 1/3rd of the country. the lower 80% own 15%...
| “ | As I've often said... this [increasing income inequality] is not the type of thing which a democratic society—a capitalist democratic society—can really accept without addressing. - Alan Greenspan, June 2005 | ” |
I know this in not a new phenomenon...and it will probably only die with the extinction of humans...I just don't get it.
is it "the american dream" that separates voters in the u.s. from voting for the higher European standards of living?
cheers to Jan 20, 2009.
a great link to see what class you're in
this is a bit chilling...to hear from someone such as Mr. Chavez...but, interestingly, he pinpoints President Bush, not necessarily the people of the U.S. saying that even 70% of the people of Bush's own country disapprove of his performance as president. Hopefully the people of Venezuela (and the rest of the world for that matter) will keep in mind the hearts of the majority of the citizens of the U.S. are peaceful and good. This is another video I wish I would've seen sooner rather than now. But, at least I'm able to post it now rather than after the poor sap is removed from office in...hmmm...let's see...425 1/2 days. It's super duper comical.
Polling groups like to track the approval rating of politicians. What's your approval rating for President George W. Bush?
you should really tune in to this episode of the daily show with jon stewart...fantastic! here it is.
I don't know if you've seen this or not. If you have, you should've posted it!
it's very good, even if you've already seen this one:
The question is what is more effective in fighting terrorism? Is it military rule or is it democracy?
The article finishes with this question.

I love this question. I think I would like to know what the U.S. people think about this on average. Then, I would like to know who they tend to vote for and if voting is something they care about! HA! I have a very grim expectation of the people in the U.S. right now...no surprise there. Although, I thought the Minnesota Vikings would NEVER have a good running back either!
