While Hillary brings a style of blending the politics of politics with the emotion of the people,
Obama just overwhelms you with hope and emotion.
(for some reason, both links start with Obama's speach, but you can click on Hillary's once the advertisement is finished)
To me, watching each one of these videos on such a very important day remembering the struggles of some for the benefit of billions feels the same as satisfying that craving that is so hard to put your finger on...that feeling of being so hungry but you're just not sure for what. And, there it is...a fresh strawberry or a juicy organic orange on a hot summer day or whatever it is your craving, you have finally found it. Politics in the states needs emotion. We're all hungry for it. But, with emotion comes heartache. The question is, have we seen enough heartache to support emotion and hope...actually vote for it? I am pretty bummed to confess that I don't think so...I feel as though our plight will see some darker days before we, as a nation, give in to our true emotions and follow our hearts for real change. We're too satisfied with our own lives. We're afraid that we'll lose what we have if we stir up the pot. Rather than clean the dirty fishtank, stirring up all the old sediment and turning the water to muck, I think we as U.S. of Americans would rather just look into the dirty fishtank and enjoy the view through what seems to be clean water.
I appreciate slow and deliberate, mindful change more than just change for the sake of itself. I hope the u.s. culture can avoid drastic and necessary change by really making a difference in this next presidential election. God knows what this country would be like today if we ever had to be as drastic as that proud and brave group of African Americans and civil rights activists 42 years ago were again.
I hope we continue to overcome the vital issues as a nation before we get to the point of feeling we have nothing to lose.
I need to get back to studying.
p.s. If I were to study a little bit on a daily basis, my life would be much less stressful than it is (sound familiar)...and, uh, my fishtank does need to be cleaned. But, of course, the water looks clean enough for me right now. he..he..he. This blog thing is hilarious.
