Quick snapshot: New York City Halloween '07
arrived tues morn (the 30th) and took a subway straight to the ocean.
The next few days after that were all super fun. some were even a bit more eventful than I would've hoped. I stayed at a youth hostel type place for pretty cheap, relatively. I met up with friends, old and new. I spent some time drinking at quite a few bars, of course.
It was Halloween, or as some folks call it Day of the Dead or All Saints Day...very confusing if you ask me...I'm gonna go with Halloween based on how we u.s.a. people celebrate it, dressing up, eating candy, drinking, screaming, etc! Here's a shot of Dr. Chris and Dr. Pat, the docs you never want to wake up to...
The Halloween Parade in The Village...
The Police...
I was able to do one of my favorite things ever which is to rollerblade in the city. At one point, I went from my hostel to Central Park and back down to Union Square via Broadway Ave, a total of about 110 street blocks, in about an hour.
here's a short clip on a side street near the hostel that I stayed at. bummer, the video files that I have through time square are too large to upload...unless I put them on Youtube first. maybe another day...
That little trip was awesome...so you can imagine how I feel about doing exactly this for a couple hours...especially down Broadway.
I checked out my old stomping grounds, Jersey City, via the Weehawken Ferry and light rail...
wow, the change over the last year has been dramatic according to my local friend...over the last 10, since I'd been there, the change has been over the top! I guess that's what happens when Donald Trump has his eye on something. I checked out my friend's art studio building (lexleonardgallery) which was also very cool.
Friday, I woke up needing to catch my flight home at 1100. I thought I had plenty of time to rollerblade over The Brooklyn Bridge...
well, I didn't, but I did it anyway. On the way to the airport, the subway I was on turned from express to local...a few other things happened...as it turned out, the entire plane waited for me...lucky they let me on and lucky I didn't have any bags to check in! Unbelievable. I was so late. Thanks to a couple very cool women at the check-in/boarding pass issuing counter calling their friends on their personal cell phone to get the plane to hold for me, running with me through the entire airport and quickly getting me through the bag check areas, I was able to get on the flight. I've never sprinted through an airport before...I don't plan on doing that again any time soon. It was awful. I spent my last hour in NYC sprinting from the subway to a cab to the airport to a different gate (dropped me off at the wrong gate) all the way to the point of sitting down in my seat on the plane only 2 minutes before the plane actually started rolling away from the gate. Notice how there are no pictures for this part of the trip...the rush to the finish line. So awesome when everything turns out o.k.
what a trip.
