Here’s a few vids I took when I was at Last Thursday (LT) last Thursday. LT is an art walk on Alberta street, which happens to be about 10 or 15 blocks from my house. When I first moved into my house LT was just starting up, now as you'll see, it's quite busy… Lots of hustle and bustle… So now in Portland there’s a First Thursday art walk in the Pearl, a Last Thursday as mentioned, and rumor has it that Second Thursday on Mississippi is starting to pick up some steam now that it's more established in it’s 2nd year (Mississippi is also about 10-15 blocks from my house but in a different direction)… Anyway, these vids may or may not whet your appetite for the city of roses, but let there be no doubt that there are many sights to see at LT…
I know that I’m not really getting that old, but I like to think that despite my age I still have a little game left in the tank. One of the things that I take some pride in is that I’ve organized an adult basketball league for the past 5 years (exclusively for the last 3). Really it isn’t necessarily a league, rather a set time and place for a group of dudes to get together and play some hoops.
So, as the new school year is about to start, so will start the 6th annual Sabin Hoops (played at Sabin Elementary school- you’ll see in the vids that the gym is obviously an elementary gym). When I say I “organize,” my only real responsibility is to acquire the gym for Friday nights and to drum up a little interest; the guys just seem to show up. Yea, of course most are the regular group of yahoos I hang with, but someone is always bringing a friend or a friend of a friend, so there’s always a fresh face. Needless to say, I’ve met a lot of really cool guys through Sabin hoops.
It started out pretty small, and I would be lying if I said there haven’t been some slim times, where only a handful of dudes showed, but we’ve never skipped a Friday because there weren’t enough players. And like all good things, it’s really taken off. I’m fairly certain that we’ll be at capacity most every night this year (capacity would be something like 12 to 15 guys). I’m even a little worried that we could have too many wanting to play. Oh well, that would be one of those “good problems” that I’m sure would work itself out…
So anyway, here’s a few vids someone shot while we were playing last year…PS, If you’re ever in Portland during the school year, don’t forget your shoes…
Banksy- Wall and Piece has been around for a few years now, so you may have already seen it. It's new to me though, and is quite possibly the best art book I've ever come across (credit CT). Don't get me wrong, I don’t claim to know a whole lot about art or art books, but if you can judge art by the "grip" it gets on you, then to me this one has some very good stuff in it. The work is mostly satirical (social, political, etc.) and mostly stenciled graffiti. He’s super creative and has a lot to say. I recommend checking him out…
I was trying to figure out how to download some of the concerts, but then realized that there really isn’t a need (with the high quality of computer speakers and all)… Anyway deadheads, enjoy!
So anyway, I was in Florida for my brother’s law school graduation and we ended up going fishing. All-in-all the trip was a pretty good one, got to spend some good time with my brother and dad. But for the fishing, it wasn’t all that great, until I hooked into this one. It took me about an hour or so to fight him in, then my brother ended up capturing the landing on his camera. At the end of the day we were still hungry, but we did the right thing and returned this ol’ boy back to the sea.

Willie Nelson... Hopefully he'll have his guitar and willing to host a sing-along. If not, we could just hang out some…
You’re my nemesis, my kryptonite; I have no use for you or your ilk… You’re sly and conniving, why don’t you just say what you want to say, do what you want to do, be who you want to be? It’s lame that you don’t. You just lay around waiting on someone else, someone else to say who/when/where, it would be nice to see you shoot straight for once… You’re so damn tame; who are you? You’re passivity…
